For a period of five years, I offered tutoring services to students at the University of Chapel Hill, Duke University, and North Carolina State University. My ability comes from experience...I was not entirely prepared for college when I started, and had to work much harder to successfully complete my degrees. I believe that this has given me a great insight into what students really need, especially as schools continue to do a less than perfect job of preparing students for the future.
The goal of my approach is to enable students to have a level of ownership in learning concepts and ideas. Merely teaching the idea is not enough, and that "Oh, I see" moment must occur to embed the idea for long-term growth. I enjoy relating the ideas and facts to real world examples that almost anyone can grasp.

I attended National University and earned a teaching certificate. I worked in a junior college in San Diego as a tutor in math, English, reading, and social studies. A Little Bit About Me...

In teaching/tutoring, I have an ongoing teacher-student conversation that resembles a programmed unit. I talk mathematics from a tutor's point of view and expect the student to fill in the blanks in a way such that I've set him/her up. What it does is keep the student's attention since they've to answer my questions and "fill in my blanks". I love tutoring students of all ability levels as I show them the light at the end of the tunnel and that light eventually lights up their eyes and their faces! I love hearing my students say that can't believe this Algebra II is so easy or that he'd be failing this 7th math without my tutoring!
