My educational philosophy is strongly influenced by Howard Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences. I approach teaching from that perspective, incorporating a variety of disciplines and media to build on a student's strengths, to have fun while learning, and to challenge areas (building new skills) where a student can benefit. I began as an English major then graduated in Physics with honors, cutting edge research experience in both academia and industry, as a published writer, photojournalist and poet. My experience in tutoring began in high school when I volunteered for my local library, in a program aimed towards improving students’ reading ability. Having had considerable difficulty learning to read myself, I felt it was important that I attempt to pass this on to others. When I entered Knox College I was focusing on English, and ended up helping my fellow students with writing and editing their papers.
