I like to utilize the students likes and hands on experiences. I realize there are many ways for students to learn and look for the best way to teach each student. I have worked with everything for Pre-K to 11 grade. I have tutored, Special Education Classrooms, and Regular Education Classrooms. I have been a teacher for the past 8 years. I have worked in private schools and public schools. I am certified in Special Education Birth to 12th grade and Elementary Education.

I have worked with children and teens all my life. I was a camp counselor at a YMCA camp for 6 summers in my teens and early 20s. I taught 5th grade my first year (class of 36 students!) and then taught 3rd grade for a year, 2nd grade for three years, and 4th grade for three years--all in public schools. Then I taught English at the middle school level for four years in a private school. After that I subbed and tutored for a year until I was hired to teach in a K-8 building at the 8th grade level. I taught there for nearly 20 years before I retired, teaching science, pre-algebra, and communication arts (English, reading, vocabulary, writing, grammar, and spelling.) While in that position, I was the sponsor of the science fair, building-wide, for nearly ten years. Since retirement, I have subbed, tutored, have written and published a book, and am writing a daily blog.

Certified IL Teacher I like to teach the student, which means I tailor lessons/activities and supplemental materials to the student. The goal is to see where the student, where the student needs to be, and find the road that will merge the two in the most beneficial way for the student. As a certified teacher, I have several hundred hours in a classroom with field experience and student teaching. I am familiar with state and Common Core standards, classroom lingo, and classroom/school procedures. I have experience with creating lessons that are engaging, interactive, and tied to real-life scenarios. I also have experience with small group and one-on-one instruction.

I have a degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in Mathematics. I am also currently taking courses in Accounting. I can tutor elementary level students in all subjects.
