My comments on tutoring Reading Comprehension : Can answer the question, what is of importance and why?

I allow students to discover answers by themselves by prompting them with questions. This hands off technique reflects the minimalist philosophy of the writing center I worked for, and I have found it is a far more effective way to help students grasp concepts which will globally make their writing better. Understanding the fundamentals of good writing is the most important tool to becoming a good writer; where merely diagnosing an issue and giving an answer for it leads to much more lazy writing in the future. That's what makes fundamental understanding so important, because it carries over into future assignments.

Reading Comprehension is one of my top subjects! My average third grade student made a four and a half (4 1/2) year progress in 9 months, ending third grade at mid-seventh grade level in all subjects.
