Since I have tutored for several years, I've found that every person learns slightly differently. The key to how I teach is to figure out how that person best learns. There is no such thing as a stupid person, just one who hasn't been taught in a way that they can understand yet. I am a firm believer in never giving up on someone, particularly when I know that they can do it. Most just need a little help and encouragement to figure out that they ARE smart and they CAN do it, and that's what I'm here for.
I actually started tutoring while I was still in college, helping out one of the science/math teachers, and proctoring classes when she needed me to. I have a BS in Natural Science with a biology emphasis, from which I've gained knowledge in most areas of science and math. Besides helping to teach in college, I also was a tutor for three years, in several subjects including Chemist ... read more

"Teaching" was the way I supported myself through college. I was a lab instructor, university experience teacher, cultural anthropology tutor, nutrition educator, and even a gymnastic instructor. I was thankful to find the College of St. Mary's Masters of Arts in Teaching. It is a solid program that has given me the opportunity to have a formal education in teaching. In my program I have over 100 practicum hours in a middle school science classroom, I tutored AP chemistry, and I have had exposure to reading comprehension strategies in many of my classes. Right now I student teach at Wichita North High. My classes are anatomy and physiology, biology, and honors biology.
I have a passion for education. I am a lifelong learner that loves getting my student excited about learning. This is often easier said than done. Through instruction in my teaching program and field experiences ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

In undergrad, I was somewhat of a perfectionist looking for a way to help others. I found that being a tutor and a supplemental instructor allowed me to help others in ways I could never imagine. I became a California Reading and Learning Certified tutor and supplemental instructor in 2008 with a program called the Center for Academic Success at the small liberal arts college I was attending and recieved students asking for help in classes including english, college writing seminars, chemistry, and math. As a result of my help, the students' grades raised from F's to A's, B's and C's over time. I loved helping them and they appreciated me helping them.
Although I never actually taught a class, I was able to learn how to adapt to the individual needs of a student. Some learn visually, others with games, practice, hands on... and the list continues. I find starting out with the basic ... read more
