I taught for 32.5 years at Northwest Community Schools. Subjects taught Fourth Grade, Fifth Grade, Sixth Grade all subjects. Seventh Grade and Eighth Grade Science and Social Studies. Middle School Phys. Ed. 20 years Adult Ecucation. Subjects taught, American Government, U. S. History, Health Issues. I currently hold a Continuing Certificate from Mich. granted in 1978, and a Professional Certificate from Florida. I retired from Michigan Public Schools in 2006 with a pension, which includes health insurance. I then relocated in Phoenix, Arizona where I taught Fourth Grade for two years. A Little Bit About Me...

I have high expectations of students, but I adjust my "teaching style" to the student. For the struggling student, I usually begin at a level that they can easily perform. From that platform, we progress step-by-step until we find the area of difficulty and why it is there. When we master that, we move on. There are a variety of techniques to use, depending on the problem and the student, but the general expectation is that they can do it.
Although my degree is in music education, most of my teaching was done in Christian schools. I have taught math (through Algebra II), English, grammar, history, and science. I would be proficient in any math through Algebra I and any English, grammar or history through grades 12. I have taught grades 3-12.

A Little Bit About Me...

I tutored with the Writing Fellows every Thursday at Schoolcraft College when I was working towards my Associate's in Liberal Arts. I helped students write and edit their papers. The primary focus was English but there were a few Social Studies/History students thrown in there. I graduated in April 2009 from Eastern Michigan University with my Bachelor's Degree in Electronic Media and Film with a Minor in Creative Writing.
I would usually look the paper over and point out problems with grammar and spelling and tell the student why they weren't working. I believe in the mantra "show, don't tell" when it comes to teaching. I'm pretty laid back and willing to work at whatever pace the student is comfortable with. I don't move on until I feel both of us are on the same page. I think the history of the English language has a lot of really interesting trivia.

Teaching children has been part of my life for many years, on many levels. I am currently a full time substitute teacher for Ann Arbor Public Schools. My past experience includes teaching Pre-K, preschool, directing educational camp programming, as well as substitute teaching for various grade levels.
