I write with great enthusiasm to apply for the position of Tutor. I recently graduated from Gettysburg College Magna Cum Laude earning my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology and Neuroscience. I have previous experience working as a Clinician/Tutor for Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes, providing one-on-one instruction to students and implemented programs that provided effective treatment for dyslexia, hyperlexia, autism, and other learning disabilities. Further, I have years of experience volunteering as a tutor, instructing students of all ages (including high school) in various subjects.
I have found that tutoring sessions are most effective when they are fun! Many students find it difficult to stay focused, especially after a full school day. My passion for education lead me to attend Western Washington University where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education and History. To be a lifeguard, one must first learn to swim, then learn different techniques, then continue to refine those techniques to build up stamina and speed. The same is true of mathematics. First one learns number sense, then algebra skills, then a deeper understanding through practice, as well as new and more challenging problems. Taking a student from their current knowledge base to a much broader and deeper understanding is what I like most about teaching. Every student is different, so they often take different paths to gain a fuller comprehension. I believe any student can succeed if they are willing to work through this process of gradual learning, connecting new concepts to their current experiences.
