After three years I taught for one year at Clayton Primary in a multi-handicapped class. I then transferred to Four Oaks Middle School in 1993 where I continue to teach. I love to teach by using the hands on technique. I will do whatever I can to see that the student grasp what is being taught. It is so neat to watch how sometimes you will see the light flick on and you know they "have it". I also will provide hand outs and use the computer to give them extra practice. I have four children of my own and home schooled each one through elementary school and some middle school. I teach using the Barton Reading and Spelling System (an Orton-Gillingham based program). This program teaches students to read and spell phonetically (sounding out words). I use a multi-sensory method (see a word, touch a word, say a word, hear a word), so that the student is completely engaged in the lesson through the use of most of their senses.
