Experience Summary
I have taught special education since August of 1989. I began at Dunn Middle School with a mildly mentally handicapped self-contained class. After three years I taught for one year at Clayton Primary in a multi-handicapped class. I then transferred to Four Oaks Middle School in 1993 where I continue to teach. The first year there I taught a self-contained mentally handicapped class, and since then I have taught through the inclusion model. Through co-teaching I work with the regular education teachers in grades six, seven and eight in the areas of math and language arts. This has been a very rewarding experience as I have watched the self-esteems of all students, regular and special education students thrive and experience success. Most of my students have learning disabilities and/or attention difficulties. I currently work with two students who struggle with the effects of cancer. I enjoy working with all children and seeing them succeed.
Teaching Style
I believe in breaking assignments into steps so that a child can experience success and completely understand each part. I also believe in making learning fun and having a very positive attitude.
