A Little Bit About Me...

I teach children and adults according to the wishes of the learner. I love teaching music theory and aural skills; however, I also love to make people discover learning music at their own pace and developments. For example, my husband learns to play certain music that I picked up by ear on the piano which he chose to learn. I teach him how to play something and he eventually learns to dictate it on sheet paper from learning it. He is getting valuable musical knowledge from this, which is coming out in the form of pitch and dictation.
As a music Education major, I studied the vocal techniques and instruments of piano, flute and piccolo. A Little Bit About Me...

I began teaching piano in 1975, the summer after my sophomore year in high school. I continued to teach through college. As a teacher, I have been able to utilize both my BME (Bachelor of Music Education) and my Bachelor and subsequent Masters Degrees in Music Therapy to support my students wide range of learning needs. I have also taken additional classes in psychology and classes that dealt with learning disabilities. I believe that I can effectively utilize these skills as a tutor.
I have worked with children for many years and in many different settings. I firmly believe that every child is capable of learning hard concepts, they just have to be taught in a way that is applicable to them. So I first like to get to know the student and try to figure out their learning style and teach them according to how they learn. This helps me figure out where the root of the problem is so I can fix it. Then I like to use a lot of visual and hands-on lessons because children need that to really grasp concepts and to apply it in different situations. I also like to question them to lead them to come to the answer and concepts themselves in order to increase their curiosity, desire to learn, and self-esteem.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is one that will allow the students to learn at their own level. I believe that each student's learning needs are unique and that the educator must be open and flexible to providing instruction that will meet the needs of all learners. I also believe that the educator must be creative in their approach to help the learner grasp and comprehend the material.
I am currently working on my Mild and Moderate teaching certification. My goal is to work with students with cognitive and specific learning disabilities.
