I Want You to Believe in You!

I like to use the Socratic method, mainly by asking questions and challenging assumptions. In addition, I like to engage those I teach, challenging them to think about what they previously have not considered. I believe in building on successes, and offering constructive criticism, where appropriate.
I have mentored various people since 2000, in all types of subjects, including math, science, social sciences, English, writing, literature, and other related subjects. My academic record is very strong, and I believe empowering those I work with every single time. The only pre-requisites are that you have to be willing to learn, and learn how to learn.

I taught secondary mathematics for 35 years, with 28 years experience teaching AP Calculus. I've also worked for the College Board, 'reading' AP Calculus Examination results. I also have 29 years experience teaching undergraduate mathematics part time, mostly for the University of Maryland European Division and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. I retired in 2006, but am now teaching statistics at the College for Seniors at UNCA. I also teach mathematics part time for South College-Asheville, and I tutor mathematics at Madison High School.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy teaching very much. I am a very patient person and more than teaching the students I like helping them figure things out by themselves. I always try to create "real life" situations for them to use the knowledge acquired instead of making them solve abstract operations.
I have a BS in Cybernetics Engineering. As an engineer, my knowledge of math and physics is high. As a student I solved so many operations involving calculus that I memorized the formulas and used them as fast as the multiplication tables. I am a native Spanish speaker. I was trained as a language teacher by Berlitz, one of the best language centers in the world. I have a certificate in Drama. I worked for a private elementary school as a drama teacher for 2 years.
