Science is one of my top subjects!

I have worked in the aquarium industry for 19years. I have indepth knowledge, practical skills related to the marine science field. I grew up in a VA suburb of Washington, DC and spent my summers and holidays from college as a page, intern, and tour guide in the US Capitol. I have a passion for learning that I would love to share with students in need. My comments on tutoring Science : I am a highly certified teacher (with over 20 years experience) and have worked as a tutor for 15 years. I'm able to tutor all elementary and middle grade level subjects. As well, I also tutor Algebra, general science, earth science, life science, biology, and chemistry at the high school level. My philosophy is to facilitate student learning by using a progressive questioning method where the student explains what he does know and then building from there, each time questioning for comprehension. This enhances not only comprehension but also communication and critical thinking skills.

My comments on tutoring Science : I have a very broad background in science -- I have taken courses in earth science, meteorology, oceanography, physics, chemistry, biology, genetics, population genetics, evolution, ecology, environmental physiclogy, botany, entomology (biology of insects), and computer science. Thus I can successfully work with students in virtually any introductory course.

As a teacher and tutor, I focus on developing conceptual knowledge (rather than memorization), and structured study methods, problem-solving techniques, and test-taking skills,including post-test analyses of mistakes as a learning tool. I encourage the student to develop skills appropriate not only to the discipline, but to his or her own personal learning style.
