A Highly Certified, Highly Qualified, Trained, Enthusiastic, K- 12 Curriculum Specialist, with over 20 years of success in teaching/training/tutoring all age levels from PreK through the collegiate level. During my educational career, I have had the opportunity to successful tutor, plan and implement various on-site training for students in math and reading; trained teachers; through modeling, demonstrations, classroom observations and providing feedback. I have facilitated as an online instructor for K -12, as well as at the collegiate level, presented at best practices literacy workshops; facilitated and redelivered the Georgia Performance Standards in language arts, math, and science; participated as a presenter in “best practices” in social science and writing across the curriculum workshop, developed reading and social studies thematic units, been selected as a model reform teacher of literature and the balanced reading program, as well as developed and created school-wide discipline plans, mentored and instructed new teachers in the area of math, reading, and social science instruction, as well as designed parental and community handbooks for the staff, parents, students, and the community alike. I am a highly certified teacher (with over 20 years experience) and have worked as a tutor for 15 years. I'm able to tutor all elementary and middle grade level subjects. As well, I also tutor Algebra, general science, earth science, life science, biology, and chemistry at the high school level.
My philosophy is to facilitate student learning by using a progressive questioning method where the student explains what he does know and then building from there, each time questioning for comprehension. This enhances not only comprehension but also communication and critical thinking skills.

I have also worked with students with emotional and behavioral difficulties, as well as ADHD and ADD throughout my career. Currently, I am in pursuit of a doctoral degree in Instructional Curriculum K - 12. I believe in targeting the needs and focusing on difficulties a student may be experiencing. I have seen that as we tackle the academics, the confidence level of a child increases as well.

If you have found your way to this site, your child is likely experiencing difficulties in school. Students who are falling behind often have lowered self-esteem, begin to feel they are not smart, and lose interest in school. This can be both frustrating and discouraging for your child and you.
I have been fortunate to work as a highly certified and qualified teacher in both general and special education, with over 20 years experience. I have seen students make substantial gains by working 1:1 and learning educational strategies. In addition to a Master's Degree in Education, my certification includes working with learning disabilities in both math and reading. I also hold additional certification in assessing and addressing reading difficulties. Currently, I am pursuing my doctorate in Instructional Curriculum grade levels K - 12.
My philosophy is that all students can learn and that all students WANT do well in school. I approach the child's academics by focusing on their strengths, building up their academic self-esteem, and gradually introducing skills that they need to work on. As they achieve greater success, the targeted skills are emphasized more. Tutoring should be a helpful, positive, and enriching experience for both the student and the teacher. Otherwise, students tend to shut down and resent having to do "extra work."
