A Little Bit About Me...

I have always had a passion for education. Coming from a large family, I was always helping my younger siblings with their homework and teaching "school" in my mom's study on the weekends. I attended the rigorous International Baccalaureate program at my high school and moved away from home to attend a prestigious liberal arts college. After graduating from Smith College in May I moved to Boston to work at a public charter high school where I worked with a large and diverse student population. I taught a reading class and a Spanish class, coached the co-ed soccer team, and tutored students in several classes, including AP courses. I was also an Americorps service member and tutored elementary school students at two separate public schools.

My passion for teaching children is immense. I feel that each child has a unique way of learning and is able to reach their full potential through different avenues of learning. I am energetic, encouraging, and patient - all qualities that will further enhance any student's learning career.
I have worked hard to obtain my duel certification in elementary/special education. I began teaching just months after graduation and have learned a lot of knowledge and commpassion for educations and the learning process. I have been an educator for 24 years. I have never thought about doing anything else because I love teaching. I've been told that I have a way with students that makes them feel comfortable and confident. I have taught everything from K thru 8th grade and I esp. love middle school. Extra curricular activities are my strong point and I have been involved in many throughout the years. My experience includes time in suburban Florida as well as inner city schools in upstate NY.
I like to use different methods to help students learn. I am a hands-on teacher who believes in having students discover their own successful learning styles. Students learn the best by doing, so, I try to let them figure things out while guiding them through instead of having them memorize rote information. Learning becomes permanent only when it is understood. I am a firm believer in Life-Long Learning.
