I am easy going, energetic, very passionate (especially when teaching calculus and physics), and engaging. In most cases it takes only a few sessions and students are having fun. I believe that most students can understand mathematics with a proper explanation. For example, the order of operations is usually presented to students without explanation for its existence. This gives the false sense that it is an arbitrary rule. I enjoy sharing my understanding to students, but I also enjoy providing a role model for my students. Throughout high school and college I showed proficiency for mathematics as well as an ability to help teach those around me. I have taken math for 4 years in college. It is a subject that I very much enjoy-so much that all of my sons are also strong in mathematics. My oldest is a national merit scholar finalist, and my youngest son is captain of his high school math team. Math is fun, like a puzzle-once the student sees this fact, they begin having more fun and less fear of the subject.
I am a patient teacher, and I use many different ways of communication. I try to find the style of learning best suited to my pupil. Removing the fear of the subject seems to be the most important part. I go through many many examples, until I feel that the student, and more importantly, the student has a feeling of confidence and mastery.

My teaching style is very simple and I believe it is effective. I have found that going through problems does not always help kids learn. I always try to tutor the basics and establish a plan for problem solving. The children need to know how to attach a problem not how to plug numbers into equations.
While attending the University of Massachusetts at Lowell I work to help other students that were having difficulty understanding the material presented. I obtained a bachelor of science in Civil Engineering, with a concentration in Structural Analysis. The course work gave me a very strong understanding of Mathematics, and Physics.
