A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored before, I am currently tutoring kids at my high school everyday in the subject in which they need help in. My goal in tutoring is to not only to have the child succeed in the course but to understand the concept of the course. My style of teaching is different for each child, because everyone does not learn the same way. Some people are visual learners and with them I focus on teaching them with pictures. Others are audible learners in which with these I focus on teaching with songs. My main reason for tutoring is to make learning fun!

Experienced Writing and Reading Comprehension Tutor

I served as a writing tutor to my peers while I was in college. I did this for three years and it seemed to help the students a great deal. This position was accompanied by training provided by one of my professors at Montreat College. The training lasted a full semester. I have also been tutoring a 14 year-old boy in reading comprehension for the past year. He has greatly improved since we started last summer in the speed of his reading, interest in what he is reading, and better comprehension as a whole.

I am a College Student studying English and Politics

I am a very firm believer that each human being has a different way of learning. I also believe that each subject has a different way to be taught. I teach based off of my students, as well as the subject.
I was a tutor in high school for many elementary and middle school aged children. I am also experienced with writing papers, so I can help anyone who is writing for a college application or essay. I am a very quick learner, so if there is a subject I am not as familiar with I am willing to study it to help a student. My goal is to help students understand the context being taught, as well as teach them the importance of this knowledge. I have often used the phrase "When will I ever need this?" and I have learned later on in life that each subject is important. This is the messageI want to get across to children, that learning new things is a very important aspect of life.

A total learning experience

I believe every student can learn, and as a result incorporate a variety of learning techniques to address a variety of learning styles. I wish to develop students in the four language proficiencies (reading, writing, listening, speaking), and as a result I use a lot of hands-on activities which involve movement and engagement on the student's part. At every opportunity, I try to create a multi-sensory experience of language learning for my students, so that they may fully "taste" various languages and cultures.
Since coming to the Charlotte region in 1996, I have had a wide variety of experiences as a language teacher, having taught in public, private, homeschool, summer school and tutoring situations. Although my primary focus is teaching French, I have also had the opportunity to equip students in Spanish I and II to continue with their language studies. Passionate about pro ... read more

More About This Tutor...

My approach to teaching is to engage a student, to get you to examine your writing as an outsider would coming to it for the first time. Basically, in working to improve your writing, I’ll ask three questions: What is your message? What in your writing helps or hinders you from communicating that message? How can we fix the problem spots? I want to help you become your own editor.
As a tutor, I do for students what I’ve done for 20 years at a daily newspaper. I check stories for grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors; but I do much more. I also edit stories for brevity, clarity, logical consistency and coherence. I’m able to pinpoint writing problems and offer solutions. I’m also an adjunct communications instructor. In six years of teaching I’ve found I relate well to students, offering them a professional understanding of how to communicate in the classroom and the workpl ... read more
