English is one of my top subjects! I am a certified ESL instructor who specializes in teaches Latinos. I have a BA Spanish and travel frequently to Mexico to teach in bi-lingual cafes. I understand the difficulty in learning English and am able to express concepts in Spanish to quicken the learning process.

I teach a in a very relaxed, non-intimidating manner. Students are encouraged to speak and work with each other in group settings. I always determine each student's level of capability in order to teach at the appropriately. Each previous lesson is reviewed at the beginning of each class. Quizzes are given to measure students' progress, as well as student feedback to measure my teaching goals and objectives.
For the last 4 years, I have traveled to Mexico to teach. Previously, I spent three semesters teaching young adults and parents from all over the world at The Carnegie Center in Lexington, KY. I began teaching for fun over 15 years ago, giving English lessons to Latino horticultural workers during lunch. My background in advertising and writing seemed to help me move seamlessly into teaching. I returned to the university to study Spanish, and my ESL certification soon followed.

Teaching confidence through kindness and success

I taught high school social studies for 26 years at Tates Creek High School, primarily as a psychology teacher. I also taught a year at Tates Creek Middle School in the areas of Citizenship and American History. Since retiring, I spent five years as a substitute teacher in the Fayette County system, teaching everything in the areas of math, science, social studies, English and also in a variety of elective studies- from creative writing to geometry and history to earth science. I have 27 years experience in the high school English classroom, and I have a Master's Degree in English from the University of KY. I can make learning fun, No Doubt!
