My comments on tutoring English ESOL : I have taught English to a 7 year old foreign (Haitian) adopted child who did not know English initially. She had acquired a good vocabulary and had no noticeable foreign accent after several years.

I have done private tutoring of high school students in math from pre-algebra to calculus and in other subjects. I have also home schooled adopted daughters from lower grades to high school level, including teaching English as a second language. In graduate school I was a teaching assistant in an electric machinery laboratory for non-electrical engineering majors. My own experience with standardized tests includes having taken the ACT in 1971 with scores ranging from 22 (76th percentile) in English to 31 (97th percentile) in math with a composite of 27 (93rd percentile) and having passed the GRE in 1975. When I came to this country, one of my goals was to succeed and the first thing that I needed to do was to learn the English language the correct way. I enrolled in ESOL classes and was determined to master the language. I obtained a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida, and then a Masters degree from Phoenix University. Although my degrees are in Business Administration; I have a strong background in essays and composition skills. While in school, I wrote many research papers, analysis, and essays in various subjects of study.
