I ask questions, I make math fun!! I draw pictures. The assinments are OUR assignments the students are not alone. Math was hard for me too I GET why they are stuck!!
I work with students of various backgrounds, aging from pre teen to retirement age, many with learning disabilities, many who are also ahead of their peers. I have a resource room and lesson plans for each group of students seperated by subject. I help them with Math, time management and note taking. Watching the look on students face as they grasp a concept they are struggling with is what makes teaching and tutoring worthwhile for me. I love the "aha" moment. I have a laid back, but respectful style of tutoring and teaching where I encourage students to think about concepts and how they understand those concepts. While teaching as an intern last semester, I designed lessons where students investigated concepts in small groups and were able to work out their own understandings together.
