Love to watch students learn and succeed!

I have been a special education instructional paraprofessional for the past eight years. I worked for 2 years in elementary education and the past twelve years have been with high school students. I love helping struggling students learn and succeed in their education. Math is my specialty but I can also tutor in Reading, Social Studies, and Science. Over time I have figured out different teaching styles for my students who struggle with understanding. I love watching my students faces light up when they really get it!

My comments on tutoring Geography : I've always had a knack for maps and places.

Very ealry on in college my English professor recommended me for tutoring English. I am not an expert, but I found I was good at helping people with their writing.I also tutored beginner Russian students while I was studying at UVM. I also helped my Russian professor correct homework and tests. outside of school, I have a good year of experience substitute teaching and was often recommended for one-on-one assignments.
I do my best to lead the student to an answer or solution rather than telling them what to do. I do my best to find out the students learning style and adapt to his or her needs

My comments on tutoring Geography : I have my B.A. in History and a minor in Philosophy from the University of Colorado. I am a dynamic historian by demand and inspired to learn anything unknown; I welcome all history necessities. Dedicated and well mannered students only.

There is not progress without dedication; there is no dedication without interest. I spark interest!
I am a newly grad from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs; I earned my B.A. in History and a minor in philosophy. I maintained a 3.5 GPA and had the honor of being selected to study abroad at the University of Puerto Rico while writing my senior thesis on the socioeconomic conflicts of Puerto Rico's independence movement. I will be pursuing my Master's degree next fall, continuing the path of academia. I relate well to students because I am a lifelong student. Also I am a husband and a proud parent of three children. I am experienced at running a healthy household where academics reign supreme; dictatorship is often avoided under the guide of homework being an opportunity to show off. Kids find that fun. I am also aware of the challenges of parenting because I too am a pa ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I have worked with students ranging from elementary through high school. My specialties are the following: Language Arts and U.S. History. I am also comfortable working with elementary students in any subject, as I taught all elementary subjects in California prior to moving to Colorado in 1995. I have tutored many students one on one or in small groups.
It is my belief that all students can learn. However, students have different learning styles; therefore, a teacher needs to be creative and discerning at times in order to help. My experience as a public school teacher has shown this countless times. Students need to be ready to accept the challenge, and realize that there is no "magic bullet". The more effort a student puts into the learning achievement, the greater the rewards.

I love teaching and working with students of all sages. I believe that you are never too old or too young to learn new skills, both academically and in life. I am able to help your student achieve academic success through the application of basic concepts in economics, finance, history or philosophy to the real world and using real world examples. Great teachers make great learners, I have had several in my life and I strive to emulate them in all of my teaching experiences.
As a graduate of a presigious liberal arts college, I was driven to a belief in life-long learning. As such I have been to graduate school twice, once in business and once in international relations, to gain an understanding of the world in which we live both in terms of economics and finance and through the study of foreign policy and the wider world. I became fluent in Spanish while on assignment in Spain in ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching to me is one of the greatest pleasures I have. Helping children learn and making learning fun is something I strive for. I understand that all children are different and teaching styles need to be just as different. I like to find different ways for children to like and understand a problem that was once difficult. I listen and like the children to explain to me their difficulties and come up with a solution together to make learning fun.
I have always worked with children, from baby sitting to working in a licensed day care facility. I have helped children with their homework and love the challenges early childhood creates. With my experience working with children I have learned patience and valuable listening skills. I earned by Bachelors degree in history which taught me how to sit and pay attention to detail.

A Little Bit About Me...

The most important aspect of my teaching style is the simple act of connecting with my students on a personal level. I believe the teacher and student must have good rapport and mutual respect in order to have a successful teaching/learning experience. I take great delight in helping a student love learning. I enjoy seeing the confidence level rise in my students as they grasp skills and move forward. I am very organized. I know how important it is to have a well thought out plan ahead of time, to make each instructional hour as effective as possible.

A life long love of learning has influenced me to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and more recently, a Master’s degree in Human Relations with an emphasis in counseling. The completion of these degrees was accomplished around the responsibilities of being in the US Army but my determination and flexibility enabled me to eventually achieve my educational goals. My experience in the US Army also provided an excellent opportunity to interact with a very diverse group of people. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is to recognize the learning stategy of the students that I am working with (tactile, verbal, auditory) and try to assist the students by facilitating the learning process in a comfortable way. An example of this would be to design a lesson around a point of interest for the student and to introduce books that he/she would enjoy followed with a relevant learning activity. I engage the students, encouraging them to think through problem solving situations with effective questioning. I set high standards for effort with my students and reward them accordingly with knowledgeable and fun instruction. I have had many successes in my role as educator, trainer, and manager.

I taught 5th grade for 3 years, right out of college, then began substitute-teaching k-12 and have been doing that for the past 5 years. In addition to this, I have been a nanny to various aged children and helped them with their schoolwork and studies. I believe my experiences with children, ranging in age from infants through 12th grade, have developed my ability to be flexible and to adapt to many different learning environments and abilities. I have substitute taught English, Math, Science, History, Physical Education, Home Economics, Business, and many other subjects. I also taught my own classroom of 5th graders all basic core subjects appropriate to that age. I believe I have many tutoring capabilities based on my wide range of experience with children in and out of the classroom.
As educators, teachers and tutors play a vital role in the lives of children. I consider ... read more

Teaching is a career I have always been drawn to. I enjoy educating children and showing them various ways to create a solution. As a kindergarten, it is such an amazing feeling to teach a child to read for the first time. My main goal is to provide children with the best materials and strategies to obtain mastery in all content areas. I strongly believe in teaching with direct instruction; however, I am able and more than willing to differentiate my delivery of instruction and materials based upon each child's individual needs. I would define myself as detail-oriented, patient, kind, flexible, and warm-hearted. My mission is to inspire a love of education in every child despite any circumstances, which I will achieve by dedicating myself to excellence and mastery and keeping the standard of excellence set high.
