Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I am a certified (NIC) American Sign Language interpreter. I have been actively involved and working within the Deaf community for about 10 years.

For the past seven years I have worked full time as a job coach at Lexington Center for the Deaf Vocational Services Center in Jackson Heights, NY. I also volunteered in their Independent Living Center for two years prior to my employment with them. In 2010 I was a private tutor for a neighborhood adolescent, teaching him basic sign language to better help him communicate with his family, as he is unable to use his voice. I have also spent time volunteering at the Helen Keller National Center for DeafBlind Individuals, where I received training to become a certified Supported Service Provider (SSP). Occasionally I also work with the New York Parent Network to provide interpretation for their various workshops and events. I also volunteer often with New York Deaf Theater, as I also have a strong background in and love for theater.

A Little Bit About Me...

Upon my decision to return to college and obtain my BS degree, it was discovered that I possessed an uncanny, natural talent involving all aspects of the studies surrounding English. Reading, comprehension, symbolism, poetry, creative writing, poise, maturitym ,ect. After that placement exam, it was decided that I did not have to take any English courses, or, I would take more advanced courses. I did choose the latter. Throughout the last 10 years, I have helped my husband, brother, all of my children, etc. I have tutored them on how to write a well developed paper on their topic of choice, and have it read showing the expertise of the writer. I believe that there is no one standardized method to teach, rather each individual is unique in their learning abilities.
