Recent Graduate Looking To Help

I am a recent graduate of Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania (May 2011). I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in creative writing. I also have a minor in photography. During my time at Mercyhurst College, I worked as a writing tutor in the school’s writing center. When students entered the center, it was my job to immediately make them feel comfortable by greeting them with a friendly smile and asking what I could help them with. A Little Bit About Me...

Although, I am not a certified teacher, I am currently working towards obtaining my licensure in Language Arts 7-12th grade and have taken several education related classes. I have recently obtained my BA in English and am educated in all of the current trends and graduated in the top ten percent of my class. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is a delicate balance of content knowledge, compassion, and flexibility. Obviously, an effective teacher should have a great understand of his or her content area, but knowing how to teach and share that knowledge is the key to an outstanding teacher. I do not see students are not robots that all process information the same, so having the compassion to see each student as an individual with different ways of processing information drives my teaching. I believe the greatest thing about knowledge is the ability to share it. I love to learn, but that is only the first step. The true reward comes in being able to impart that knowledge of someone else. However, each person learns differently. Whether in a classroom setting or one-on-one tutoring, it is imperative that the teacher learn how each student learns.
