My comments on tutoring Basic Learning Skills : I am NYS certified in Literacy (grades 5-12) and English (grades 7-12), although I have several years of experience with children as young as Kindergarten.

Holding active NYS certifications in both English and Literacy has had a tremendous impact on the way I teach. I find myself much better able to engage struggling students. Quite often, particularly when it comes to reading, it is the lack of basic comprehension skills that prevent students from being able to fully engage with a text and to perform critical thinking tasks. My experience in diagnosing and instructing students at various stages and abilities of literacy acquisition has helped me garner a talent for overcoming this challenge, and propelling students into higher order thinking.

Since I was younger, I have always been interested in teaching children. I have babysat for neighbors, tutored children at the elementary level, and I worked at two daycare centers as a Pre-K head teacher. I attended SUNY Oswego and received my bachelor's degree in Childhood Education 1-6 in May 2008. I also received that year my NYS Teaching Certificate.
