Psychology Professor/Reading Specialist

Over 25 years of teaching experience (all grade levels ~ from preschool to university graduate level courses). I enjoy tutoring, as it allows me to work one-on-one with a student to best assess their strengths and weaknesses in order to help them reach their goals. My doctoral work in Educational Psychology has given me a unique advantage in incorporating learning theory with applied teaching techniques. I am planning to enter medical school in the Fall of 2012 and as such have developed a strong foundation in the sciences throughout my undergraduate education. I taught 7th grade Language Arts for six years when I lived in Florida. I collaborated on the team that created the Orange County curriculum for teaching writing to the middle grades. This curriculum is still in use today. I worked for the Princeton Review as a tutor doing SAT preparation both privately and in a classroom setting. This was in preparation for both the verbal and math skills sections.
I believe that students of all ages respond to humor, honesty, and respect. Subjects in which that students have difficulty can be made accessible to them by demonstrating to them the humor in learning something hard and the fun of conquering the subject.
