Over 25 years of teaching experience (all grade levels ~ from preschool to university graduate level courses). I have been blessed with professors at the university level who understand the importance of one-on-one instruction. Through the "creativity" of thoughtful instructors I have seen myself grow and develop in ways that I hadn't thought possible. Every student learns differently, and once the instructor gets to know the student well enough and is able to tailor their lessons to the needs of the student, true learning happens. I believe that students of all ages respond to humor, honesty, and respect. Subjects in which that students have difficulty can be made accessible to them by demonstrating to them the humor in learning something hard and the fun of conquering the subject. Learing should be something students enjoy.
I taught 7th grade Language Arts for six years when I lived in Florida. I collaborated on the team that created the Orange County curriculum for teaching writing to the middle grades. This curriculum is still in use today. I worked for the Princeton Review as a tutor doing SAT preparation both privately and in a classroom setting. This was in preparation for both the verbal and math skills sections.
