When I was little I taught one of the YMCA staff members how to sign and I have been tutoring people who went to college for about a year and a half. A Little Bit About Me...

I have numerous experience teaching ASL to many children, young adults and few older adults either paid or volunteered. I also tutored math, english, and science in the past as well. Sign Language is one of my top subjects! Two college semesters of ASL, taken with a deaf professor. I have also translated songs for a choir. Although I am not fluent in this language, it remains to be one of my absolute favorites.

I have tutored many young students throughout my life, and have been tutored myself. I do find it easier to work with younger children; however, I am capable of assisting those of high school or college age students who are struggling. I have helped young children learn how to read, write, count, and tell time on an analog clock. Though I do not have strictly professional tutoring experience (I have never been paid for my services) I know how to identify student's learning style(s) and work with them a way that they will benefit from. Sign Language is one of my top subjects! American Sign Language is my primary language. I grew up using American Sign Language as a communication access to people. I have met many hearing people who I want to learn. I am investing my time and energy to all of those who want to learn. I am senior at California State University, Northridge majoring in Deaf Studies. I do volunteer works for deaf and hearing people. My duties is to provide lecture in ASL, to teach Deaf how to be independent, visit Deaf families teach them about Life Skills. Sign Language is one of my top subjects! My mom and my step father are both deaf and my real father was hearing. So growing up I learned sign language along side with learning english. I have almost always interperted for my mother and step father in many situations.

In American Sign Language I was raised learning English along with American Sign Language so I could speak to both of my parents. As my dad is hearing and my mother has been deaf since birth. Once my parents divorced I moved to Texas with my mother and step-dad, who is deaf as well. Being in an all deaf house American Sign Language was my only way of communcation with my parents. I am extremely fluent in Sign Language. I would also interpert for my parents if needed in multiple places and multiple situations. My teaching style is student focused. It is necessary to understand the student's strenghts and needs before one can begin to assist them in learning the academic material that they need to master. Much of my preshool teaching career consisted of working with four year olds and getting them ready for kindergarten.
