A Little Bit About Me...

As a teacher, I bring passion for both creativity-based and logic-based subjects. I don't subscribe to the right-brain/left-brain paradigm. I believe students can be strong in both mathematics and writing, and it is my desire to help students realize this, because so few people do. My basic tutoring practice is to let the student do most of the talking. I believe this keeps the student engaged in the subject and demonstrates whether or not he or she really understands. I believe that language facilitates thought, that being able to explain something in words helps us to understand concepts better. I often have the student teach me back, meaning that I have the student explain a concept in his or her own words.
