I have served as a Writing Tutor with UVU for five years now, tutoring in all genres. In April I will graduate with my BS in English and Creative Writing. I worked as a tutor of writing at Austin Community College in TX from 1/07-12/07. Currently I serve as a TA for an Intro to Creative Writing class at UVU in which I grade half of student work and teach once a month. I was accepted to the University of Houston's MFA program this fall, where I will also teach undergraduate composition. I served as Editor-in-Chief of UVU's literary magazine entitle, Touchstones. As a Mormon/LDS missionary I attended the LDS Mission Training Center and then spent 2 years in the Tokyo area. I studied and spoke Japanese daily. I taught a message in Japanese daily. Also I spoke to congregations in Japanese regularly. Following that time, 2004-2006, I studied at BYU (acclaimed for its language success). Here I have earned 20 credit hours of Japanese with an A- average. I am not fluent but I am very good.
I believe teaching is a noble profession. As a missionary I was a teacher for two years. There was a specified message about Jesus Christ and the incredible potential of mankind. Also, I taught English there weekly to natives (including a class for children only -- I made all curriculum up as we went). A Little Bit About Me...

As a recent graduate of BYU in Business Management (finance emphasis) I have been able to show excellence in my own school work. I have a major GPA of 3.85 (including many Accounting and Finance classes) as well as receiving a 4.0 while taking the “finance core” classes. Receiving a score of “5” on both the Calculus AB and BC tests during high school prepared me for college. Previous tutoring includes training new workers for employment positions (including a customer service representative and a restaurant position). While serving a 2-year mission for the LDS church I was able to train other missionaries. Much of this training included a personalized one-on-one teaching of how to approach, teach, and perform the necessary work.

I believe that each student has strengths and weaknesses and it is my job as a teacher to find these and help students expand on the strengths while overcoming the weaknesses.Each student has a unique learning style so I need to teach things in ways that the student can grasp. I especially love helping students who experience difficulty learning and watching a student light up when he/she finally understands a concept.
