My comments on tutoring Math : Expert - have done PhD level work in mathematics

My teaching style is based loosely on that of my major college math professer (and head of the department), which was originated at the University of Texas by his thesis advisor and another colleague. It is basically the Socratic method as applied to teaching mathematics, to try to draw the student out and get him or her to think on their own. I am for understanding, not regurgitating a bunch of facts, which anyone can mindlessly do. The object is to be able to think and analyze on your own.

My comments on tutoring Math : Elementary math for grade 1-5

My bachelor degree is in Interdisciplinary Studies with English and theatre as my teaching fields. I have been in education for over 20 year in both elementary and middle school. In elementary school, I taught all the subjects in both 2nd and 4th grade. In middle school, I taught English Language Arts, Theatre and speech. I am highly qualified to bring you to the next level with your English and writing, and with my theatre background, I make learning fun and creative.
In my experience, successful students are the ones who embrace learning with a multitude of strategies to choose from. I have always been a visual learner and theatre arts performer, so I tend to gravitate toward strategies that have roots through visual learning and teamwork which allows the students to learn by creating and practicing with others. I have amassed a great deal of knowledge through continuing e ... read more

Experienced Successful Math Tutor

I use a Socratic method whereby the student is encouraged to think about the math problem and generate suggestions about how to characterize it. Once the student's mind has been stretched a bit, I begin adding hints that direct the student's thought process in the direction of the solution.
I currently work full time as an administrative assistant at a Yeshiva Torat Emet, a private school in Houston. I tutor in the evening, and on weekends. I have tutored AP Calculus and 7th grade math for The Math Coach in Houston, TX. I previously worked as a Technical Writer for Brown Technical Publications.

My comments on tutoring Math : I have my bachelor of science degree in Electrical Engineering so complicated math is my favorite. I love to teach it and share my tricks of solving with students. I have taught and tutored High school and college math for the past 3 years! I have helped many students earn higher grades and gain a better understanding.

In the year of 2008, I decide to begin my adventure in education. I accepted a position as a math teacher at Red River Academy. a boarding school for teens with behavior issues and drug addictions. I taught 6th through 8th grade math there and helped mot of them improve by helping them gain confidence and showing them different strategies that could be used to solve mathematical problems. After helping many student improve int he classroom, I was offered a tutoring position by the tutoring company, Royal l Education, that held a contract with the school. After doing so for a bout a year, I became interested in going into the regular classroom to teach students who had the same issues as the student in the boarding school which included: ADD/ADHD, Dyslexia, math deficiencies, and visually impaired. I accepted a position as an EDBD teacher at North Bayou Rapides Elementary and took t ... read more
