I enjoy working with students of all ages and want nothing more than for them to succeed. In order for them to succeed it somtimes requires a little more attention than the classroom teacher can provide. As I am still a student myself, I bring a slightly unique perspective to tutoring. I know and appreciate the importance of a compelling instructor, who is both enthusiastic and intelligent, but also patient and understanding. I love the sciences, but I have not been working in the field for so long as to not remember the frustration most students feel when first grasping the founding principles. I strongly believe that learning is best facilitated through problem solving rather than rote memorization, especially within the sciences. Asking questions is far more important than answering them, and engendering a genuine interest in learning is paramount above all else.

I teach from the known to the unknown (i.e. taking a concept that is already known, or an everyday activity, and relating it to new concepts. I vary the teaching style to maintain the interest of the student. I use questions and answers, telling, demonstrating, or having students try experiments themselves. I believe in an interactive learning environment where I am constantly asking students for their inputs and working through problems with them. This way, they become confident in their abilities to solve difficult problems and provoke critical thinking.
I am currently a graduate student in petroleum engineering. As an undergrad I worked as a mentor for a freshman in my major, helping him cope with school and advising him of the courses he needs to take. I also provide tutoring when needed. In high school I was part of a program called PEPP where high school students provided tutoring to middle school students. I was also involved in a program developed by my school's Honor Society where we tutor our peers in math and science courses. Additionally, I was a summer camp counselor for three summers and I was responsible for coordinating various activities for the children each week.
