Geography is one of my top subjects! Able to tutor/teach all elements of Geography/Social Studies as made relevant in the American classroom today.

I have over of 30 years of progressive experience in tutoring young children in the elementary years of education in all subject matter areas. My specialty is literacy and reading, but I am also adept in teaching all of the math curricula as well. I also firmly believe that teaching organizational skills and proper research methodologies are very important for the classroom today--and every child needs these skills in order to excel in the classroom and survive. I am also a qualified art teacher in the NOVA area.
I believe in tutoring so that the child receives feedback and fully understands his/her own limitations and how to overcome obstacles in class. Many children lack positivity in the methodology! I also believe that using art instruction helps children to learn in a more creative manner.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a German native I'm just here for 6 years, but return to Germany every year to teach German as a Foreign Language in summer classes at a private language school. I mostly teach teenagers and young adults in group or one-on-one settings. Before settling on German as a Foreign Language I finished a Master in Geography at the University of Bonn, Germany. I tutored also whole families before being sent to Germany because of the profession of one of the family members.
With two daughters (15 and 11) and experience teaching teenagers from as young as 9 years on I have the patience and experience to teach all children. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is simple. I start with the basics, then build on that each time I meet with the student. In addition, it is critical that the tutor is doing age-appropriate practice exercises with the student. In addition, there has to be a lot of variety. Students do get bored. I don't like to constantly use a worksheet. I would prefer to enhance the lesson with some hands-on activities, or games. It really makes a difference, especially with the younger students. I also believe in review, review, review. I don't want to move on unless I feel confident that the student has mastered the concept.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have a Bachelors Degree in General Studies from the University of Maryland which includes two concentrations: Second Language Spanish, and Human Development. I have tutored three individuals over the past five years. The first was a 3rd grader in reading and comprehension. The second student was a tenth grader in grammar and composition.
