I have experience tutoring math over the last 4 years. I have been in the high level math classes throughout my entire life. I am a very thorough when i teach and make sure the student understands the material before moving on. I am extremely patient and make sure I move at a speed that the student understands. I have never tutored in other subjects but am comfortable with doing so.

I graduated Summa Cum Laude, in May 2004, with a B.A. in English and a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Idaho. I enjoy helping others and have often volunteered my proofreading and editing skills to my friends, family, and classmates. While in college, I took numerous creative writing classes that utilized workshop and group editing techniques. As a result, I have learned how to give constructive criticism and how to help others improve their writing without compromising their own unique style and voice. With my years of being around and in an educational environment, I have picked up patterns of repetition and summary to reinforce ideas being conveyed. I, myself, learn best by doing. Through studying adult learning styles, I discovered that studies show utilizing all facets of learning - writing, audio, visual, and hands on - leads to the highest levels of retention. I teach by 1) talking by the student to determine his or her best learning style and 2) utilizing the various methods listed above so that the student can retain the maximum amount of information through his or her best learning style.

The style of teaching that I use is experience. I believe that people learn best when they work through and actually practice the issues. For example, in mathematics I believe it is very important to practice math problems. Not to memorize the answers but the memorize the formula for working through a problem. When they are working through the problems I try and answer any questions that they may have, so that they develop speed and accuracy, that way when a test comes they are fully equipped with the skills they need to get a good grade in a relatively quick manor.
