Believing that people learn best from what they consider most relevant to their lives, my teaching style is one which encourages learners to seek a higher level of knowledge. In addition to reading textbooks, the students must learn by doing. I encourage life long learning by promoting a sense of what it takes to successfully retrieve information when one needs it later. Basic memorization generally fails us all in time. Modifying or adapting information in a manner to help the learner reach success is crucial. Students may learn more from auditory, visual, or hands on methods. I always encourage learners to use what feels natural to them.

I believe that all children can be successful academically with the right encouragement and guidance. I believe in showing students the correct way to do the task at hand, and them coaching to explore the materials themselves. I believe that given the right tools and foundation even a academically unsuccessful student can excel.
During the pursuit of my degrees I worked tirelessly to excel. While in school I volunteered as a tutor for the local Boys and Girls Club. My teaching of children began in 2004, when I taught a Sunday school class to 5-year-olds at my church. Then in 2005, I assisted with teaching the local children at a small mission church. During the 2006 through 2008 school years I subbed in mostly elementary schools, but I also subbed in some middle and high schools. Since 2007, I have been tutoring Jefferson County Public School students in the No Child Left Behind program. The students have been a diverse group of faces including Mexicans, Somalis, Cubans, Hindus, Black Americans, and Caucasians.
