I enjoy tutoring those who are in Middle School or High school. I feel as though they tend to have a higher capacity for sustaining attention. Those are unique ages that can really build a foundation for later education. I believe that one-on-one time is essential in learning. Some people might learn well in a large group, but others learn much better when time is spent on explaing specific details. I find the most enjoyment when a tutee finally links the core concept and is able to solve more difficult problems on their own.

Presently retired. 25 years of teaching locally at Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne and at ITT in Fort Wayne. Other localities include Idaho, Arizona, and South Carolina. 20 years as an engineer on Government Projects including the Minuteman Missile, Loss of Fluid Test reactor, Roland Missile Project, Parts of the Lunar Excursion Module etc.
My success in tutoring was more visible to me at ITT in the period between 1995 to 2006. I got to know the student's problems with the subject matter and was able to help them more accurately than in the classroom. I was very pleased with the results of this process. My second career choice was education, but I went with accounting instead. I have always found good luck with explaining how to do something by using examples. As I continue further in my career, this comes easier and easier. Problem solving techniques are an important tool to teach as these skills help children methodically figure answers out.
My volunteering began in 1993 when I was an officer at the Indiana University Bloomington chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the honorary accounting society.
