I have been involved with the National Program I Can READ for 2 years I helped k-3rd graders improve reading skills/ I was lucky enough to be staff(and a volunteer) for the boys and girls club for 1 year.I have helped in many local elementary schools with reading. I was the main tutor for Preschool-1st grade at the American Fork literacy Center for 6 years(I volunteered for 9)
I have always had a passion for teaching . I do not have a degree but I do have 20+ years experience. I think reading and learning should always be FUN so I try to make it fun by echo reading/funny flash cards/. All of my DAR(dream achieve read) students know that reading can take you places

Russian is Awesome!!

Very flexible, determined based on student. I am very relaxed and patient.
I lived in Russia for 2 years from 2004 to 2006. I talked with native Russian people all day every day, and studied grammar daily on my own. I returned to Russia in 2008 to teach English for a month in Russian elementary schools and took Russian language courses at Liden and Denz institute in St. Petersburg. As a college tutor I worked with ESL students in writing. My English and MLIS degrees help with reading developement, research, literature selection, and writing quality. I have also home schooled my elementary age children in all academic subjects. Currently, I am volunteering at a local elementary school in the STAR program tutoring young children in reading.
I have a daughter that is hearing impaired and has a langauge processing disorder. I also have a teenage son that is extremely bright, but a little lazy at school work. Teaching and watching them learn has shown me all children can learn, but they do it in different ways and at different speeds. I am a kind tutor, but diligent in making sure all the work gets done and we are moving forward as quickly as the child can. I believe that the basis of learning is understanding the principles of the subject. If a student has a thorough knowledge of the basics, then he does not need to rely on root memorization or luck to pass classes. I believe teaching and learning the basics are far easier than simply attempting to pass a test or earn a decent grade. All subjects in the end build upon each other, a strong foundation helps not only with the current class, but with all future classes as well. Also, everyone has the ability to do well, and should be afraid of classes or subjects that are traditionally seen as dificult.

I believe that the best way to learn is to have someone discover for themself or find a way to teach themselves the concept. That way, the knowledge will mean much more than if someone just tells them the answer, or tells the student how to do the problem.
