I have a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering and Master and PhD degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering. Being proficient in mathematics was and continues to be an integral part of working in engineering for me, and although this is fairly obvious, what I have discovered, through tutoring my own kids (currently 9th grade in high school, 7th grade in middle school and 5th grade in elementary school), is that devoting time to gain an understanding of the very basic material goes a very long way regardless of whether one is studying complex or simple mathematics.
