In 2007 I had the wonderful opportunity of being one of two teachers at the Ann Arbor Academy's lower school for students with learning disabilities. I have worked as a Teacher's Assistant for three years where I did extensive tutoring with one student over the course of the year. I substitute taught for two years where I learned a great deal about schools, particularly elementary schools and their various curriculum and expectations for grade levels. As well, I was a full time tutor and mentor for students at Pine Ridge Academy for a year while I lived in Burlington. I also teach the second grade religious school class at my temple. A Little Bit About Me...

I try my best to make the student figure things out on their own, by giving simple guiding questions or comments. I do not like to simply do the problems for them, as I find most people do not learn well this way. I am patient and empathetic, and I understand what it is like to approach a problem from the position of a student who is confused or unsure. I try to give them the tools to understand basic problem solving and critical thinking.
I went to school at EMU with the intention of getting a doctorate in Physics, to teach at the college level. I ended up getting a job in IT at the University, and found I enjoy this just as much. While a student, I volunteer tutored for the Society of Physics Students, and I tutor all the student employees I have when they are taking physics classes. While at Wayne State University, I studied Geography, Urban Studies and the Italian language. When I graduated, I held a BA in Geography with minors in Urban Studies and Italian. During my education at Wayne, as I gained a good knowledge of the Italian language, I started to tutor lower-level students. In the end, I tutored Italian for one and a half years.
I am a very easy-going individual; I don't like to push too much but am encouraging. The way I think teaching Italian works best is to make associations with the English language. The two languages are so heavily intertwined, but not at face value. After learning Italian, my knowledge of English is much more profound. A Little Bit About Me...

Although my degree is in music education, most of my teaching was done in Christian schools. I have taught math (through Algebra II), English, grammar, history, and science. I would be proficient in any math through Algebra I and any English, grammar or history through grades 12. I have taught grades 3-12.
I have high expectations of students, but I adjust my "teaching style" to the student. For the struggling student, I usually begin at a level that they can easily perform. From that platform, we progress step-by-step until we find the area of difficulty and why it is there. When we master that, we move on. There are a variety of techniques to use, depending on the problem and the student, but the general expectation is that they can do it.
