Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I am fluent. I have taken ASL classes for the past eight years.

My teaching style is a demonstrator. I like teacher-centered classes with an emphasis on demonstration and modeling. I try to act like a role model by demonstrating skills and processes and then as a guide in helping students develop apply theses skills and knowledge.
I have student taught for the past seven years. I have tutored countless individuals in English, Drama and American Sign Language. I am fluent in ASL and am very confident in my ability to teach others the beautiful language. I was heavily involved in theater for the past fifteen years and I can say that my experience has taught me more than any coach could and I am more than willing to share my experience. I take learning seriously but I also make it fun.

I have an associate's and a bachelor's degree in American Sign Language/ English interpretation issued by the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. I am currently working as an interpreter full time at a high school. I have worked for Arkansas school for the deaf. I have Ark credentials for interpreting (level 2/2). I have passed both the written portions of the Texas certification test for interpreting (BEI) and I have passed the written portion of the EIPA, the national certification test for educational interpreters. I will be taking my performance portion of the EIPA next month (Dec).
I first need to know what stage the student is in his/ her learning and what he/she is working on in class. I have sign language books and videos. I will work with the student to make sure he/she is understanding and doing the signs correctly.

My comments on tutoring Sign Language : I am deaf and I have been a signer since the age of 2. ASL is my first langauge and I can certainly help you make it one of your langauges.

When I tutor you, this will be a classroom style expierence. 1. I will teach Vocabulary initially 2. I will assign books to be read so we can have a discussion about the history of Deaf Culture 3. As we progress you will learn syntax, structure and conversational skills 4. I will also assign you to attend Deaf events so you can learn how to interact with the Deaf community at large and practice signing with people who have diffrent styles 5. There will be tests and quizzes. History: If there are school assignments I can help you understand what went on with the history in query. I will help one research for papers.

A Little Bit About Me...

Sign language has been my passion for many years. I receive so much joy when people want to better their skills in American Sign Language. I have been tutoring for American Sign Language since attending Baylor University in 2009. I am currently a Deaf Ed Teacher using American Sign Language daily. I have taught all age levels, including adults. I have worked as a sign language teacher to deaf children in Honduras who were not allowed to learn sign language until an older age.
