As a graduate from BYU with a BS in finance and composite minors in accounting and economics, I moved into the medical management field. Within 7 years, I had taken a medical practice struggling to survive financially to a 3-physician, 2-midlevel practice. That experience launched a career. Other business background includes general management of a hotel/restaurant/touring company in a resort town. Later, I returned to school to complete an MA in theater. I love to teach. In order to be an effective teacher, I believe you have to be willing to adapt and change very quickly. This may also mean you have to spend extra time with students who are struggling or be proactive when you notice there is a problem instead of waiting for them to come to you. I also believe that if a student cannot remember what they have recently learned, then there is little importance to what was taught. Often I provide short activities that will help students remember and build upon previous lessons. Each child has the ability to succeed. At the university level, my experience has shown me that all students can have trouble from basic to advanced concepts.
