I was an exceptionally driven high school student, taking the most difficult schedule my small private school would offer. My course work included AP calculus and AP US government, on both exams I received good marks. In college I studied a wide variety of classes in pursuit of a degree in the liberal arts. My main foci were history, foreign languages and English literature and grammar while maintaining a love for the sciences and mathematics. Free and unconstrained autobiographical writing is one of the best ways to coax a student insecure about his or her writing skills into putting into words intense experiences from their own life. I tell my students to just tell me in their own words what they are trying to say. When they speak aloud, the words flow, and then I say, "There is your opening sentence right there. Quick! Write it down." At other times, I ask them to pretend that they are really someone else, an actor in a television show, for example, and I have them imagine that the character, not they themselves, are speaking. This releases the student to let go of inhibitions and let the film roll "for the character" and then they stop focusing on themselves. I have worked with the Milwaukee Public Schools since January 2007 as a Paraprofessional Educational Assistant. I assist students with challenging subjects as needed. Previous to working in the Milwaukee Public Schools District, I worked at the UW-Milwaukee Children’s Center as a teacher in a kindergarten classroom. I instructed students on reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. Through my courses at UW-Milwaukee, I have been placed in many field placements. In these field placements, I planned and implemented lesson plans. I believe that every child can learn and be successful. Students all do not learn the same as the teacher, you need to change how you teach and present materials to get the attention of all of the learners in the classroom. Just recently, I worked with students in New Berlin, WI as part of the Junior Achivement program. While in High School and College, I worked with students in Madison at Whitehorse Middle School on Video Editing, PC Repair, Postmodernism, and Music.
