Elementary Phonics is one of my top subjects! I have my bachelor's degree in childhood and special education as well as certification in early childhood education. I have my master's degree in literacy education. I am currently a reading teacher in a local school district, working with children in the elementary grades.

My teaching style is based on the gradual release theory, where instruction begins with me demonstrating a skill or strategy, followed by the student practicing the skill with my support, eventually leading to independent use of the skill by the student. Elementary Phonics is one of my top subjects! Certified in the Wilson Language Program 2001, a program that is designed to teach reading skills to students with dyslexia and other language processing difficulties. The program's major emphasis is on phonics, phonological awareness, and fluency with some interwoven comprehension taught through visualilzation.

I teach according to the style that best works for the child, and I take the first couple of tutoring sessions to figure out a child's strengths, weaknesses, interests, and most effective learning style. Regardless of style, however, I believe that a multisensory approach to teaching is best for a child, as it allows teachers to tap into areas of strength of which the student may not be aware.
