Ex-classroom school teacher with 10 years plus experience!

My teaching style is one that always tries to relate to the child and to have fun. Does the child enjoy video games, dinosaurs, soccer, dance, or a particular cartoon character? When I discover what it is the child enjoys, I bring that element into the subject we are learning about. If the child likes soccer and struggles in reading, I research about famous soccer players and find books on them. Perhaps, at the end of a teaching session, we go outside and kick the soccer ball for 5 minutes as a source of inspiration to get work completed. Bringing in other ways of learning through play and games is also something I enjoy. Playing simple math games or reading games is a easy way to teach a child, without them realizing they are learning.

My comments on tutoring Elementary Study Skills : As a life-long learner myself, I find this area vital to share with students. Study skills are skills they will use forever, when reading a news paper, critically assessing on-line information, etc. I've been a successful student all my life and share my own strategies for learning.

I have joyfully taught students in grades 1 through 5 in Los Angeles urban schools, and in the suburbs of Plano. My comments on tutoring Elementary Study Skills : Study skills enable good students to become great students. Simple things like having a specific, comfortable, quiet place to study and an awareness of study skills behaviors decrease study time and increase learning pleasure.
