My comments on tutoring English ESOL : Have tutored some international students with their English papers

I teach to cater every student’s needs and their learning modality (visual, auditory, kinaesthetic). I tailor each lesson according to the student’s previous background or current level. For children, I make each lesson enjoyable by incorporating games that foster learning.

I have been involved in offering educational services since I was in high school, when I tutored younger students in math, Spanish, research writing, and general elementary subjects. A career in education was a natural choice, and I have taught both ESL and Spanish, with experience in elementary and secondary teaching, as well as teaching online.
Having taught small and large classes, as well as one-on-one, I am a firm believer in the benefit that one-on-one and small group instruction can offer for students. I take a calm and respectful approach to teaching and tutoring students. I view the exercise as an opportunity to provide guidance rather than instruction. I encourage students to arrive at an understanding of problems and solutions in the context of how they relate to the fundamental principles underlying the question at hand, be it a mathematics or scientific specific challenge. While earning a BA in English at Reed College, I gained valuable experience in researching and writing essays on the variety of subjects required for a liberal arts degree. Within my own major, I continually practiced literary interpretation and criticism, argument development, and editing. I have also broadened my knowledge of English grammar through teaching English as a Second Language to Spanish and Italian speakers. I like working with children and young people very much. I believe that teaching should always be student-centered.
