A Little Bit About Me...

After graduation from college, I entered the Peace Corps and moved to the country of the Federated States of Micronesia. I have lived in that area of the world for most of my teaching career. I have taught for over twenty years gaining experience on almost every level of the educational ladder. I have taught K-5th grade. I have taught in middle school programs and I have taught in high school programs. I have taught in regular classroom programs and in special education programs. I have experience tutoring having worked in Saturday Extended Day programs for at risk learners for two years. I also did tutoring on my own for several years with adult learners and young children.

My original interest was teaching instrumental music. Although I changed majors and ultimately graduated with a BS in Computer Science, I have continued my interest in teaching, first by volunteer tutoring during college and later by helping adults learn to speak English. I eventually took an intensive summer course in teaching English to speakers of other languages, following which I spent over three years teaching conversational English in Central Asia. Upon returning to the States I worked for a few years for a literacy council, helping administratively and also teaching workplace English. I developed a heart for young people at an early age, as my parents were missionaries to Native Americans. I truly believe that education has changed my life and promote higher education. I am able to relate to children of all ages and in the past two years especially related to high school and young college students who were looking for their way in life.
