A Little Bit About Me...

I consider myself to be a "beginner" teacher as I have recently graduated college and received my license. I have spent roughly 500 hours in the field as a result of college course requirements, and I have successfully completed a 12 week internship (student teaching) experience. I have had the opportunity to work in many different subject areas and classroom settings with students of various backgrounds, ages, and learning styles.
I try to take a hands-on approach to teaching when possible. I find it helpful to use varied and often unusual objects and materials when teaching a lesson; it tends to make the material more memorable. However I am not above using the standard pencil/paper/textbook approach when needed.

I graduated from Ohio University in 1978 with a BS in Education. I went on to earn a Masters degree in Educational Administration. I hold two valid permanent teaching certificates and a professional license. I have been fortunate to have taught all grades and all subjects with the exception of 1st, 3rd, and 4th. I have also had the pleasure of being an ABLE instructor for adults. I am currently teaching high school, however have been offered a 4th grade position in math and science. I love working with children, and feel that I can relate to them because I struggled in my early school years. I feel it's important to identify each child's learning style, and use that knowledge to help them discover the potential that they each hold. I feel it's extremely important to help them build their confidence, because anxiety only distracts them from the learning process. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that everyone has a different learning style and that we can never assume that one individual is the same in the way that they learn. In teaching I try to implement different approaches to see which one may work the best and stick to that method. I have found flash cards, memorization skills and techniques as well as a hands on approach to be some of the best methods. I also believe that creating a relaxed and fun atmosphere helps most people retain what they have learned.
