A Little Bit About Me...

Ultimately, I strive to teach to the individual needs of the student. Each person learns differently, and each person needs different strategies to help them do so. For me, learning is about teaching a process, not just memorization; it is about learning how and why, not just what to do. I am always patient, and always ready to adapt myself and approach something in a new way if needed. Success for the student is my greatest goal.
I hold a BS in Mathematics with an emphasis on teaching from Purdue university, as well as a minor in Physics. I have been certified to teach Math by both the State of Indiana, and the State of Ohio. During college I tutored students in College Algebra, first year Calculus and first year Physics. As a professional, I have taught courses in Algebra, Computer Basics, and have tutored in all levels of High School Mathematics.

My approach to teaching is more of a "why" approach. It is more important for students to know why something is or works rather than just how. This approach works well for middle and high school students. It allows students not only to understand the ideas taught but to apply them to other areas as well. I also like to use visual aids as well as conversation. I have found that many of us vary widely in learning styles. Some are visual learners, others are audio learners, and still others are a combination. I work well one-on-one but also enjoy small groups.
