I tend to use a hands on approach to teaching. I put learning in the perspective of the students life into an experience that he/she can relate to. I asses the level of clarity needed based on the students response and actions. I like to teach visually which also helps for memorization and repetition. I take as many breaks as necessary for the student so that they do not get frustrated or discouraged. I also make them feel comfortable with me as a teacher so that all questions and comments are highly suggested and welcome. I am very patient, easy going, and considerate. I graduated from Davidson College with a major in economics, which has enabled me to gain an understanding of both math and social science. I tutored during my junior and senior years in North Carolina and I've also done private tutoring in Gainesville. In addition, I coached 4-12 year olds how to swim. If I can teach 4 year olds who are screaming and kicking how to swim I can teach someone math or ecnomoics.
I really enjoy teaching all ages. From my background in coaching young children how to swim I've become well adjusted to dealing with difficult situatioins in a learning environment. However, I always want to provide my students with the best learning environment possible. I am currently enrolled in the graduate engineering program at the University of Florida, in which I plan to graduate in the spring of 2012. I enjoy working with people and I have a strong background in numerical analysis. I have taken the GRE, ACT, and the SAT. Scores were high above the national average for math and at about the average for the written portion. I do have experience in writing research papers and laboratory reports, all in the field of civil engineering.
