As an education major at Berea College, I volunteered my services as a tutor three nights a week in addition to my student teaching and education courses. I was also a Pre-Kindergarten teacher during the summer terms while I was in college. I am certified to teach all subjects grades K-5. I have my masters degree in Reading and Literacy Instruction. I currently teach Pre-Kindegarten in Lexington.
I love to learn, which is why I love teaching children. Every child learns differently, because of this, teaching is a learning process as well! I believe that students learn best through hands on activities that allow them to internalize the concepts they are struggling with. Whether it is using math manipulatives to understand multiplication and division or using letter tiles to understand consonant blends in reading, hands on activities are the best way to learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

Since my retirement I have tutored math to students in the Black Achievers Program thru the Lexington YMCA. I truly love teaching math and have always received very high evaluations. I believe the way I explain mathematical concepts makes it easy for students at all levels to comprehend. I have three children and eight grandchildren and over the years have enjoyed working with them on math problems and math games. I have visited several of my grandchildren's classes as a guest teacher. My goals in teaching math -- 1) teaching of basic skills, 2) understanding the structure of math, and 3)teaching students to think. I always enjoy having fun. I enjoy helping others understand things and have the communication abilities to be a great teacher. I enjoy working one-on-one with individuals and am very trustworthy. I am involved largely in church at home and in Ames and will work diligently and appropriately to ensure my teaching is effective.
