A Little Bit About Me...

At our first session, I ask that each student complete a short quiz to determine their learning style (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc). Every child learns differently and I believe that discovering what works best for each student is the first step towards success. Once we figure out what his/her learning style is, I cater to this. If they learn best by reading, I'll prepare worksheets based on what they're learning; if they're hands-on learners, I'll make an activity.
My experience with tutoring began in high school, when I started assisting elementary students with homework through one of my clubs. Throughout the two years I was involved, I regularly helped 6 students, along with 6 students that I met with irregularly. A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with children I get a real thrill when they get the concept/idea that I am instructing them in . I believe that given time and instruction a child that is willing to learn will learn. It's a matter of patience and time.
I have 15 years experience in the lab. My educational requirements to be a med tech means I have taken many science and biology classes. I have had oppotunities to subsitute teach at my childrens' school and really enjoyed the experience.

I have worked in biology for over 10 years, and have a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Western Michigan University. I have taught 250+ college level students in lecture, labs, and in more informal classroom and research settings, and have also worked with children of all ages in nature programs.
I love biology and would like to make learning concepts in biology a fun and rewarding experience. I have spent the better part of my life either in school or teaching in one form or another. I highly value both the process of learning and of passing on my knowledge. I have intend to make this my life's work and as such have almost always held teaching positions. I tutored fellow students while an undergraduate and after graduation I taught autistic students in math, reading, art, speech therapy and physical education for 5 years. Then, as a graduate student I taught Human Anatomy to undergraduates. Though my own education is in psychology and biology my years of education have provided me with a broad base in the arts, history and literature/writing as well.
