A Little Bit About Me...

Tutored students as a part of an after school program with inner-city, Washington High School. Assisted the struggling students with brainstorming paper topics, clearly communicating ideas, general textbook use, critical thinking, future goal making. I also made a point to get to the students as people not projects. Throughout college I regularly worked with Spanish speaking students to develop clear papers on a variety of subjects. My approach to tutoring is to make learning fun and exciting for students. I have to learn what they find interesting and apply it to my lessons and style. Not every student likes the same things, or learns the same way. I am a huge advocate of Howard Gardener and his Multiple Intelligence Theories. Using different techniques and new, fresh ideas will maintain the student’s interest. Learning by rote instructions and memorization does work, but there are other tactics and styles that I incorporate in tutoring. I believe that every single child has the ability to learn and be proud and confident of their abilities, but it is up to me to bring out the best in that child, so not only I can see it, but they can too!

A Little Bit About Me...

As a student at the University of Detroit Mercy, I worked as a tutor for two years. I helped other students struggling in mathematics and biology classes. Also, my senior year in college I worked as a Teaching Assistant for a Microbiolgy lab. In addition, I did student teaching for a Catholic Middle School.
Many people have different teaching skills and techniques. I do not believe any technique to educate a child is better than any other technique. Each child learns differently. Understanding the fact that children learn differently is crucial. The teacher must be able to adapt to the child's learning style. I believe I have the ability to use an array of teaching styles to help children. I would enjoy the opportunity to help children learn.
